Location

All four of Disney World Resort’s major theme parks have at least one character dining restaurant. Animal Kingdom’s is Tusker House, located in the African area of the park. This restaurant is themed after an African marketplace. It is close to the Festival of the Lion King show and the Kilimanjaro Safari.

The Meal Experience

Tusker House is an all-day buffet with character interactions available at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Even though this is a buffet, you’ll have a server to bring you bread and pastries, as well as some sweet and refreshing POG juice (passion fruit, orange, and guava). The POG juice is included, but specialty drinks can also be ordered for additional charges. Breakfast has a bread service basket with zebra coffee cake and blueberry mini muffins while the lunch bread service includes honey-rosemary rolls and naan.

During breakfast from 8:00 am to 10:30 am, you’ll find all of the classic options such as Mickey Waffles, fruit, cinnamon buns, bacon, and sausage. For those looking for more exciting options, Tusker House also offers meals like Durban chicken and egg curry with jasmine rice. Since this is a buffet, you’ll be able to help yourself to small samplings of everything or large helpings of your favorites.

Lunch and dinner have the same menu. You can help yourself to tandoori chicken, green curry shrimp, and other African-inspired meats. They also offer vegetarian options such as beyond sausage, cauliflower bunny chow, and feisty green beans. If your young ones are picky eaters, they also have some favorites like corn dog nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes.

As delicious as the savory options are, be sure to leave room for dessert. Tusker House has plenty of selections, including plant-based chocolate mousse, baby flamingo cupcakes, double-chocolate zebra cookies, and baby bee cupcakes.

Special Element: Characters

This restaurant includes both delicious food and interactions with some of your favorite Disney characters: Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Goofy. To match the theme of Animal Kingdom, they all show up dressed from head to toe in safari gear. You’ll be able to get photos, talk to the characters, and ask for their autographs. There are multiple rooms so you may need to wait for the characters to make it to your table, but they do make it to everyone regardless of where you’re sitting.

Additional Information

Tusker House has characters all day, unlike some of the other character dining experiences throughout the Disney World Resort. Breakfast is $45 for adults and $29 for children. Lunch and dinner both cost $59 for adults and $38 for children. If you’re on the Disney dining plan, this character dining experience costs one table-service credit per person.
